Rick Reilly's ignorant article about Jimmer Fredette

Rick Reilly is catching some flak on-line after publishing a piece on ESPN.com called "Jimmer grows dimmer." Reilly criticizes Jimmer's performance in the Florida game and says Fredette will not be a great player in the NBA (bookmark the article, because it will be amusing reading after Jimmer Fredette does make it in the NBA).

Where Reilly really crosses the line, though, is when he criticizes Jimmer for his Mormon faith -- implying that Fredette spent too much time reading the scriptures, and mocking BYU fans for their discomfort on Bourbon Street. This is the same Rick Reilly who wrote an idiotic article criticizing the 16-year-old boy who refused to wrestle a girl for a state championship, on religious grounds. Apparently, Reilly is just anti-religion generally.

Scott Lambson has written a good deconstruction of the Reilly piece at BleacherReport.com: ESPN Writer Rick Reilly's Religious Jabs at Jimmer Fredette Outrageously Unjust. Most people in sports respect religion, but there are exceptions. And I'm sure Jimmer will have to put up with a lot of exceptions in his career.
