2022 Career Update for Jimmer Fredette

When Jimmer Fredette was drafted into the NBA in 2011, many people thought his career would take off. However, after playing for a few different teams, he found himself without a contract and decided to move to China to play professional basketball.

In subsequent years, he made a few more runs at playing in the NBA, as well as a brief stint in Europe.

Now, as of January 2022, Jimmer is back in China and playing for the Shanghai Sharks. You can read a recent recap of his career at basketnews.com.

Even though his time in the NBA didn't go as planned, Jimmer has continued to be one of the most successful players in China. In 2017, he was named MVP of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) and helped lead his team to the CBA Finals.

He also continues to be the humble, likeable player that made him a star to begin with. In an interview with Xinhua News Agency, Jimmer said, "I'm just really happy to be back here. The fans, the people, the culture - it's all so great."

Jimmer Copes with Potential Trade

While most of us Jimmer fans hope he gets traded to a team where he can make a difference (e.g., the Jazz), for the time being Jimmer has to deal with a lot of uncertainty about his career. Cowbell Kingdom recently asked him how he is dealing with trade rumors and unpredictable game time, and JF answered:

I’m doing fine, you know.  I continue to work.  You can’t really worry about things you can’t control.  So you just continue to fight, work hard, knowing at some point, you’re going to get an opportunity.  So you have to stay ready for it, stay focused on it and so you just can’t really worry about it as much as people think.

Jimmer to Chicago Bulls?

Digital Journal makes the case for a Jimmer Fredette trade to the Chicago Bulls. It is fairly certain that Jimmer is leaving the Kings at the end of this season (at long last), and speculating has began about his destination. He could provide outside shooting for the Bulls.

Teams Contact the Kings to Talk Jimmer Fredette Trade

USA Today reported that inside sources with the Sacramento Kings have indicated that about 6 NBA teams have contacted the Kings to discuss trading Jimmer Fredette. There is no indication yet that the Utah Jazz is one of those teams, although Utah is the most obvious destination for Jimmer.

Recall that three years ago when Jimmer was drafted, many people expected him to go to the Jazz. I think Utah erred by not take Jimmer then. Hopefully, they will correct that error soon.

In 2014, Jimmer a Free Agent

The Sacramento Kings have reportedly decided not to exercise their option to retain Jimmer for the 2013-14 season. So, beginning summer 2014 Jimmer will be an unrestricted free agent.

Will free agent status be good or bad for Jimmer? Probably good. In three years at Sacramento, under three different coaches, he has been continuously under-utilized. If he lands on the right team, he could have a Jeremy Lin moment - finally getting the playing time he deserves.

It's too soon to say which team will scoop Jimmer up. The Utah Jazz could make a good play for fan turnout by appealing to Jimmer's local fan base.

#FreeJimmer

After last night's 12 points and 3 assists in 18 minutes of play, Twitter is full of #FreeJimmer Tweets. This season, Jimmer has finally shown up in the NBA, but the Kings still won't let him play long enough to win games.

So when will they let him go? #FreeJimmer
